Katern.
The personal magazine for e-ink

Your best reading, stuck on your worst screen.

You own the perfect reading device — and still read everything on your phone. Katern collects what you meant to read and turns it into a fresh edition on your reMarkable, Kindle, Kobo or Boox — every morning, or once a week. With a cover, a contents page, and a last page.

How it works

From forty open tabs to one edition

1

Collect

Save any article with one click while you browse. Give newsletters your personal @katern.app address, so they skip your inbox. And follow the sites you'd check anyway — their new pieces arrive on their own. Switching from Pocket or Instapaper? Your archive moves over in one go.

2

Compose

At the time you choose, Katern takes everything you saved, throws out the ads, cookie walls and comment sections, and typesets what's left into a real edition: cover, table of contents, sections, page numbers. No infinite scroll — it ends.

3

Deliver

The edition shows up on your device by itself — in your reMarkable's file list, in your Kindle library, or as a download. Every morning with your coffee, or once a week: your choice. You read; nothing on the page wants your attention back.

Why we make this

Read-it-later apps don't have a reading problem, they have a business model: your attention, measured and sold. That's why they're feeds. A feed must never end, so you never leave.

Katern is a magazine, and a magazine picks a side: yours. It runs on EU servers, tracks nothing, sells nothing, and your words train nobody's models. You pay for it — that's the whole model. And it has a last page, because your reading time is worth more than our engagement metrics.

Fair questions

Before you leave your email address

Do I have to install anything?

No. The browser button is the comfortable way to save articles, but the email address and your followed sites work without installing anything at all.

What happens to my data?

Your reading lives on EU servers and goes nowhere else. No tracking, no ads, nothing sold, and your words are never used to train models. Delete your account and everything goes with it.

I don't own an e-reader. Useless for me?

Every edition is also a PDF and an EPUB you can download or read on a tablet. But we'll be honest: on e-ink it's better.

When can I start?

The private beta opens this autumn, waiting list first. The list also decides what gets built next — early readers have a loud voice.
